Executive Board

The executive board consists of four members. The appointed Chairwoman ist Professor Dr. Birgit Mazurek, Director of the Tinnituszentrum Charité.

Professor Dr. med. Birgit Mazurek
Chairwoman of the board

After qualifying as ENT specialist, Professor Mazurek has been building up the Tinnitus Center Charité since 2001. A day clinic was set up at the centre in 2003 to provide interdisciplinary care for patients. Professor Mazurek conducts basic research and publishes on changes to the auditory system. The annual Tinnitus Symposium organized by the Centre promotes interdisciplinary science communication. Prof. Dr. Mazurek was President of the XI Tinnitus World Congress (2014) and the 55th Inner Ear Biology Congress (2018), both held in Berlin. “Money is needed to expand tinnitus research in Germany. This is why I am actively engaged in the German Tinnitus Foundation Charité.”

Dipl.-Ing., Dr. rer.pol. Lutz Mackebrandt

Dr. Mackebrandt founded the CMS Societät für Unternehmensberatung GmbH in 1975, which under the name Restrukturierungspartner jwt GmbH & Co. KG has become one of the leading management consulting firms for restructuring and insolvency. Dr. Mackebrandt is co-editor of the journal “KSI. Krisen-, Sanierungs- und Insolvenzberatung.“ Honorary offices: vice-president of Federal Association of Liberal Professions (BFB), member of the presidium of the Federal Association of German Business Consultants (BDU), deputy member of the administrative council of the Federal Agency for Employment. “Millions of people suffer from tinnitus. Our foundation gives patients a chance to help themselves. But the foundation is also important for society as a whole. If we take care we can protect our hearing to avoid damage developing in the first place.”

Burkhard Jung
Deputy chair and treasurer

Burkhard Jung is CEO at Restrukturierungspartner jwt GmbH & Co. KG, one of the leading consulting firms dealing with all aspects of crises. The qualified engineer Burkhard Jung has expert knowledge on out-of-court company restructuring and reorganisation during insolvency. He is the chairman of the German professional association for restructuring and insolvency consulting of the German federal association for business consultants BDU e. V.. “Tinnitus can also be a stress- induced condition and in the consultant business stress is very common. That is why an involvement in the German Tinnitus Foundation Charité was something I really wanted to do. It is very important to me that people are informed about tinnitus and how to avoid it. Prevention is the best possible thing you can do to avoid suffering from it, considering the fact that it is a very stressful and depressing disease.”

Dr Magnus Rüde

Dr Rüde was appointed managing director of the board of the Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin in 2017, after he had already been head of the staff unit of the board of the Charité since 2010. He holds a doctorate in history from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and a Master of Management degree from Malik Management Zentrum St. Gallen. He is author and editor of several publications on knowledge management. Dr Rüde explains his commitment to the German Tinnitus Foundation Charité as follows: "Tinnitus is one of those widespread diseases that still receive too little attention in academic medicine. With its commitment, the German Tinnitus Foundation Charité makes a valuable contribution to medical research, treatment and education, which will improve the lives of more than 7 million people in Germany".
